A profession that has sometimes been persecuted and sometimes exalted. Until not too long ago, the puppeteer built his puppets, made the theatrical scripts, scenography, costumes, sound and lighting. A creative profession in the broadest sense of the word.
Now many puppeteers are surrounded by professionals specialized in each field, although the "Renaissance" tradition continues.
Not many years ago most visible puppeteers were men.
